Shortlist for the 2017 NatWest Great British Entrepreneur Awards Announced

It has just been announced that North West- based director ofThe Prologue, Luke Swann, has been shortlisted for the 2017 NatWest Great British Entrepreneur Awards in the Innovation of the Year award.

Luke commented: “Recognising myself, The Prologue's director, as one of the most innovative entrepreneurs in Great Britain is incredibly humbling. However, my contribution towards this movement for children will soon be shadowed when the shackled minds of children are liberated from an antiquated educational system that they are forced into without much say. Children are not just the future, but are the present, and society will see profound changes once their ideas are implemented in a world where we all profit from our young prophets.”

This unique publishing and education movement for children is becoming the first organisation to use personalised stories as education tools to improve literacy and tackle the issue of lack of diversity. Individuals will have the opportunity to include a dozen details of a child’s life and choose from eight illustrated protagonists to roughly match them for ethnicity and gender. All personalised stories are to be presented to children for free as e-books with a ‘Donate a Book’ initiative, via partnered charities, allowing people to purchase a paperback copy for a child to cherish for life.

The Childhood Trust’s Chief Executive, Laurence Guinness, endorsed this novel approach, stating: “Your project sounds like a wonderful way to engage and motivate children to read. As a literacy mentor myself for children with SEBD difficulties I know how much a resource like this is needed.”

Speaking of The Prologue’s inspiring entrepreneur, the Natwest Great British Entrepreneur Awards team said: “A publishing director, author and educationalist, Luke Swann’s innovation as an entrepreneur is guided by his first-hand experiences of poverty, academia and a desire to improve the well-being of future generations. His award-winning company, The Prologue, produces e-books that use personalised stories to promote education and creativity in children.”

The Prologue beat off some tough competition in order to make the shortlist, with over 1000 businesses entering the awards nationally. The three-month old organisation is now looking to make it three out of three, having won awards with UnLtd and The Business Network in the last two months.

Now in its fifth year, the NatWest Great British Entrepreneur Awards has celebrated some amazing entrepreneurs over the years, many of whom are now household names. Past winners include David Buttress of Just Eat, Julie Deane of The Cambridge Satchel Company, James Watt of BrewDog and Alexander Solomou of TheLADBible Group.

Creator of the awards, Francesca James, said: “We cannot wait to celebrate entrepreneurship across Great Britain with them, and put a spotlight on the incredible talent within the British entrepreneur ecosystem.”
